Wanna watch DVD on PMP or mobile phone ?
Watching DVD has become the most commom home entertainment. It is really a great enjoyment to watch DVD on a big screen. However, the fast rhythm of modern life makes it impossible to watch DVD at home all the time. Watching DVD with a portable media player such as iPod, PSP, Sansa View, etc, or a mobile phone on the way to work or on a trip is becoming more and more popular as an alternative method.
Neither portable media players nor mobile phones support playing DVD directly. Thus a DVD Converter, or a DVD ripper is necessary.

What DVD can be converted by Any DVD Converter ?

What if my DVD is not supported ?
For some reason, many DVD movie discs are protected with DVD copy protection technology or limited in a certain DVD region. Such DVD movies can't be converted directly by Any DVD Converter. Convert DVD with desired title, chapter, etc.
By default settings, DVD disc or DVD folder will be listed as titles in middle panel. Any DVD Converter will automatically check the main title and uncheck other subsidiary titles. The main title is the main content of the movie while other titles should be menus, special features, etc.
If you don't want this, you can check "Do not seperate a DVD video disc as titles" by menu Edit --> Options --> DVD tab. Then the entire DVD will be converted into one file. However, in this case, chapter selection will be disabled since every title may include several chapters.
Any DVD Converter allows you to select any chapter, audio language, subtitle and angle. In the right panel, unfold "DVD Options" and you will find the settings. Look at the picture below, it indicates that 5 subtitles are avaible.
- Chapter: Specify chapter(s) you want. For example, set 03-03 to convert the third chapter and set 04-06 to convert the chapters from the fourth to the sixth.
- Audio Language: Specify in which language the movie dialogues will be spoken in the output video. Available languages depend on the DVD movie itself.
- Subtitle: Specify in which language the subtitle will be shown in the output video. Available languages also depend on the DVD movie itself. Selecting None will not show subtitle.
- Angle: Specify a view angle of DVD and produce a video output in specified angle.
What's on a DVD ?
When you access a DVD disc or a DVD folder, usually you'll see 2 directories. They are AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS.
AUDIO_TS is used for DVD Audio and contains the audio files, whereas VIDEO_TS is used to store all data for the movie.Now let's have a look at the VIDEO_TS directory, you will find there are 3 types of files on a DVD: .VOB, .IFO and .BUP.
A VOB contains several streams multiplexed together: Video, Audio and Subtitles. Video is MPEG-2, audio can be AC-3, Linear PCM, Mpeg 2 multichannel or MPEG1 layer2 2 channel audio. A VOB can contain one main video stream and several multiangle streams, allowing you to switch (as an example) the perspective during the movie. This feature is mostly used to display storyboards or other extra features during playback. It's possible to have up to 9 different audio streams and you can usually switch the audio stream during playback (this feature can be disabled during the authoring phase of a DVD). It's also possible to have up to 32 different subtitle streams. Subtitles are 4 color bitmaps which are overlayed over the video stream, they're usually not encoded into the video stream.
IFO Files give the player important navigational information, like where a chapter starts, where a certain audio or subtitle stream is located, etc. This is why sometimes converting a part of a single VOB file will not get right output video.
BUP files are just backup files off the IFOs. As their counterparts they are not encrypted.
